All? The government sure hasn't cut spending any. But they have been enjoying the tax revenue from increased corporate profits and increased market enhanced individual tax payments.

I wonder how much of our budget surplus has been from gains in the market? I wonder if there will be any this year? I know personally I will be able to more then offset any gains and without doubt get my full 3k of loss's against income.

Same here, Jeff. I paid HUGE (relative, of course) capital gains taxes last year but this year I will have carry forwards that will last me a long time at $3k per year...

I suspect they will have to start readjusting those budget surplus guesses back downward very soon.
