WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republican
vice presidential candidate Dick Cheney
was hospitalized Wednesday morning
with chest pains and was undergoing
tests, Bush campaign spokeswoman
Karen Hughes said.

"My understanding is that Secretary
Cheney had some chest pains early this
morning, and as a precaution, he went
to George Washington Hospital where
he is undergoing tests," Hughes said.

She said she was notified at 6:08 a.m. (1108 GMT) that Cheney had just been
admitted.

Hughes said campaign chairman Don Evans spoke to Cheney by telephone in the
hospital and the former defense secretary sounded calm and described himself as
comfortable.

Cheney has experienced chest pains in the past
and has admitted himself for testing as a
precaution during those past episodes, Hughes
said.
