I think you missed my point

Bush could have asked for a recount/hand count in any county he wished. The law is clear, Gore asked, the requisite standard was met

"Dimpled" ballots do not comply to the standard of "clear intent of the voter" in any mature democracy I am aware of. Even the election boards in Palm Beach and Broward County did not consider these initially. If all of a sudden, they are acceptable, that would constitute a change of the standard after other counties had the possibility to order their own recounts. If you don't see that there is an equal protection issue here, I have to challenge either your objectivity or your ability for logical reasoning.

I do not particularly care whether Gore or Bush wins (apart from my small position in Philip Morris). I am just one of the millions of observers who are deeply amused by this American election debacle.

P.S.: Perhaps Florida should have accepted the election observers from Zimbabwe after all.
