Not being familiar with the military mail delivery service, I can't comment on that. If there is a way of proving when an item was mailed other than the postmark, then I suppose it should be counted, but I would want to be sure that the process wasn't susceptible to fraud.

Do all states do it this way? I thought some states simply required the ballots to arrive at the state offices prior to the election, meaning that they need to be mailed at least 10 days early. That would obviously eliminate a lot of potential for fraud. I think that when it comes right down to it, most people just want a fair election with the least possible taint of fraud. It's far too late for this outcome to smell clean, but certainly we should try to improve things in the future. A better system of voting would be a start, and perhaps an earlier date for receiving ballots would, too.

I totally agree. If Gore does end up president the decision to not count military ballots is going to haunt him more then anything, IMO.

On the other hand, Bush needs to show leadership skills here and step out from behind the curtain.

I know I said I did not want to participate in this discussion but what the heck.
