Re: "Why is it a black day for the rule of law?"

Because it exposes the fact that the SC has far more power than anyone realized when framing the Constitution, Florida's Constitution in this case. This is a classic case of legislation from the bench. They completely threw out the law prescribed by the legislator and created out of thin air a remedy crafted to suit a single political end. The fact that they did this is not the problem. The problem is there is no way to stop the arbitrary actions of a single branch of government. 7 Democrats can operate outside any law passed by their legislature and personally select our next President without answering to anyone in a timely manner. No law can stop them because they define their own power and authority on the fly, as they deem fit. The Constitution makes them the last authority on what the Constitution says. This is a license to do whatever they choose from a political as well as legal standpoint. Our system was intended to be run by laws passed by the legislature, duly elected by the people but that has been turned on it's head by the self anointed illuminade who see themselves as on a higher plain thus entitling them to create new law when the old one doesn't suit their sensibilities or political affiliations. The machinery of government has been commandeered by the elitist few and we are seeing the results today.

That's why it is a black day for the rule of law.
