Lewinsky-Dan - Re: 'Athlon at 1.5GHZ will wipe the floor with P4 at 1.5GHZ. '

Your BlowHard machine is working over time.

Here's the news: AMD's 1.2 Ghz AthWiper IS NOT EVEN AVAILABLE more than a MONTH after launch - and Pricewatch indicates that DECEMBER may be the availability date.

So, why blow smoke about a device that doesn't even exist when the "current" AMD paper product doesn't even exist?

Blow Smoke ?

Excuse me - did you light Slick Willy's Cigar?

Dan,

The P4 1.4 and 1.5 must be cooled to 70 and 72 C to stay within spec. Voltage is already at 1.7.

Good find. We will see how much headroom there really is under current process.

Joe

That's case temp., Mister Fudmeister. Junction will be several degrees higher, or probably around 80 C, which is about what you'd want a maximum operating junction temp. to be. BTW, All the important boxmakers in the world have put forth P4 systems.

Alibi-Dan - re: "The P4 1.4 and 1.5 must be cooled to 70 and 72 C to stay within spec. Voltage is already at 1.7."

The original AthWiper was "spec'd" at a maximum case temperature of 70 C and an operating voltgae of 1.7 volts - and a max speed of about 600 MHz.

Intel's Pentium 4 has IDENTICAL SPECIFICATIONS - except it runs 800 - 900 MHz FASTER.

Why is it that the exact same SPEC for Intel is BAD in the AMDroid dimentia brains, but good when it applies to an AMD device?
