Sam: The Begala quote didn't come from that article. It was from an Op-Ed piece by Michael Kelly - admittedly anti-Gore but not known for making up quotes from public figures.

And surely you wouldn't compare the DeLay comments with what Begala reportedly said. Begala's comments are downright odious while DeLay simply expressed a sentiment that is shared by many, even if it is debatable.

I haven't heard the Republicans engage in quite that level of discourse during the post-election posturing (yet). A comparably repugnant statement by the right would be the comment a couple years ago by a leading Republican figure (Gingrich?) that implied that left-wing permissiveness was responsible for Susan Smith's drowning of her children. Completely indefensible.
