Leadership ...

It just so happened that I read an article this morning in the paper about a consultant who specialized in leadership. One trick he uses to get the attention of audiences full of executives is to ask them the simple question "What about you would make anyone want to follow?", then the room always falls silent. Now that he's grabbed their focus, he continues.

I've seen the comment posted to the Laughter thread that people will follow their leader, but only out of curiosity.

In today's world, the troops are often well educated, skilled, and independently minded, and hence, reluctant to follow just any General blindly. Today's leaders need more skills and ability than ever before. Heading a high-tech workforce is similar to pushing on a string.

I think we'll see the nation's citizens adopting more and more of the attitudes of the self-directed younger workforce with a wholesale abandonment of the attitude that they'll follow whoever leads just because they have the bars on the shoulders and the braid on the cap.

The honour of holding the highest office in the land has deteriorated over the last few years, and the most recent occupants have done more to augment than reverse this decline. I see what's going on in Florida as further erosion.

Cheers, PW.
