shaw, while avnx's powermux product does have great potential, to talk about a switchless system being implemented by uunet anytime soon is abit farfetched...cao's vision is just that, a vision...will not happen anytime soon...if u listen to what he said at gilder's telecosm conference, he admitted that even if there was a million channels per lambda, that there would still be a need for switches...granted, they would need to be much more sophisticated than even the most advanced ones made by xros(not being deployed by nortel yet) that might handle 1064 X 1064 ports.
