OT - I underestimated Bush's ability to undermine himself...

I wrote:

"FWIW, I went long OEX and QQQ calls today. May be premature, but I think the handwriting is on the wall on the election thing - with Dade county not counting, Bush has it, and if it drags much past Thanksgiving, then negative public is going to build which both candidates are going to want to avoid. "

The fool had it in the bag, and he blew it, upping the ante unnecessarily. Without Dade county, Gore cannot make up the difference in the vote count. Now Gore is going to feel compelled to see Bush's unnecessary raise.

My misestimation was that Bush was smart enough to avoid turning the country sour against him. The guy's a strategic idiot - I shudder to think that his finger will be on the button - Nixon's drinking bouts and Kissenger's repeated saves notwithstanding...

Perhaps communication in Bush's camp is poor. Why they would announce an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court after they had it sewn up is a mystery. They just undermined his presidency. (Not that either one of them is going to have much credibility now.) He won't be forgiven for unnecessarily dragging the country through more muck, and bringing us closer to the brink. (Ferchristsake, they almost had a riot in Dade county, when some Republicans thought that the sample ballot a Democrat was holding was the genuine article...)

I now return you to your regularly-scheduled nonsense...
