"Visitors to St. Peter's Basillica in Rome always comment about the extravagance of gold and jewels, priceless artwork, and so forth. Where do you think the Chruch obtained these pieces- war and savagery. Religion in the US has taken on political significance. No longer does it provide a sanctuary for the troubled..."

You have a valid point. Many confuse being religious with being spiritual. The Jews of old were told to treat the gentiles fairly. Many didn't. Christians were taught by Christ to love their neighbor as themself. Many forget the simple truths. Christians are also taught to not love this world, yet you wouldn't know it from some of those 'name it and claim it' ministries. We are told to pray for those in leadership. I confess that my prayer is too often, "Lord, get them out."

In summation, if one follows what is true, he will not hate his neighbor and he will seek the best for him as well as for himself.
The real argument goes back to Adam and Eve. Ever since, mankind has been stuck with, "I want to do what's right, but just can't seem to do it" mentality. We need help. Jesus is that help. That's why He is called the Saviour!
That's my sermon for today, folks.
