Henry Hyde, the Chairman, had a child as a product of an extramaritial affair. Several other Republicans on that committee had affairs, not to mention whatever was in Newt Gingrich's closet. The hypocrisy of BOTH parties is disgusting. So what? What you didn't say anything about was lying under oath, which is what the hearings were about. Who cares about affairs, as long as they're consensual and the women being propositioned aren't promoted or hurt by their acceptance or rejection of the proposition? That's what this was about. Paula Jones sued claiming her career was damaged by not accepting his proposal. The lawyers were trying to figure out which other women Clinton propositioned (successfully or unsuccessfully) and how their careers were affected. He apparently lied to them as part of the process, which was illegal in it's own right. Paula Jones settled before the court had a chance to determine whether she was harassed or not. Enough of this. I know that Scumbria, jim, and other Democrats will not change their mind. As for me, I've already said that it doesn't matter what party you are, if you break the law, you should be punished. I told Scumbria that if Reagan had broken the law, he should have been punished as well. I don't care about party -- I believe we're a nation of laws that help protect the individuals, and even though they might appear too strict or silly at times, and need to be updated way too often, they're still better than anything else anyone has come up with. And they're not just to be applied to one party or the other. In addition, if you vote a straight party ticket, you're pretty much a zealot in my book, and will never understand. Sometimes the best person for the job is a Democrat and sometimes it's a Republican. If you vote along party lines, you're not thinking enough about it. (There, that ought to raise some hackles <G>. But at least we can stop talking about Clinton, who doesn't deserve the attention <VBG>). Dave
