I do not see it the way you do. We have about 100 MM voters. A machine can process 20 voters per hour for let say 10 hours only, or 200 voters per day (all conservative numbers, IMHO), at $200 per machine you are talking $100 MM nationwide. let me tell, you that the legal machinations in the last two weeks and the cost of recounting are probably costing as much as a nationwide system would. I am not talking about the billions wasted in the election process itself. Would you want to get rid of this wasteful expenditure as well? If yes, Vote (it is not too late <VVVBG> in Florida) Gore, and vote often (in multiple counties) , he promied election financing reforms. Mayb the "special interests" will fund the voting system. <G>

By the way, since such machine should be amortised over 5 years, you come down to a very reasonable $20 MM year, or $.20/voter per year, gee, you can't get a cup of coffe for that.
