How is it a reconciliation between 2 laws if one is discarded (7 day deadline) in favor of the other?

Joe-

Almost by definition, the process of reconciliation does some violence to the things being reconciled. If this weren't true, reconciliation would not be necessary. It is rarely a perfect solution.
No law was thrown out. If the court had said there is no time limit, that would be throwing out the law. If they had said recounts have to be done in 7 days, that would be throwing out the law.
I don't know what part partisanship played in the decision and neither do you. A hot potato was thrown in their lap, and they had to deal with it. It was bound to piss off people on both sides. Your side is angry that extra time was given to a process that could swing the election against your guy, and Gore's side took its lumps yesterday when the election board in Dade effectively overruled the Supreme Court. Life goes on.
