I wonder if there are other cases where the naz has given back multi-year gains on the onset of a declining economy.

It happened between January 1986 and January 1998, trading at 330-340 in both of those periods, after reaching a high of 450 in October 1987.

Ditto between Jan 1989 and Jan 1991.

At the top of a market, people can't get enough of the stuff at any price. At the bottom of the market, they hesitate to buy anything at any price. The market as a whole is not "cheap", but all-in-all, on a stock by stock basis, there are stocks to buy at reasonable prices for the first time in years. It is amusing to see so much pathetic whining and hand-wringing. Good luck -- just my 2 cents worth.
