Dan:

Exactly what I was thinking. Who is the GOP going to try and railroad without Gore around? Nobody with significant enough ties to Clinton...they won't know what to do do with themselves. At this point, I wish Gore would concede this afternoon. He won the popular vote and there are 50 million plus that now like Bush even less than before and based on his very limited intellectual capabilities his approval rating in year 1 will be in the toilet. Look for more Democratic seats to be captured in the mid-term congressional elections and for GWB to be lame duck right out of the gate.

But if Gore disappears from the scene, who will the Republican masses have to hate?

Dan,
RE:"But if Gore disappears from the scene, who will the Republican masses have to hate? There will be an emotional void of fearsome dimensions left there."

This is an interesting question. The Dems could have floated a much more likable candidate and won easily.
They may even have got my vote.
If Bush wins I think he will serve to bring people together, like it or not.
If Gore loses, Hillary will be happy in that she can go after the nomination in 2004. At that time she will likely have shedded the Billy baggage, the carpetbagger image and will be a much more formidable candidate.
