Dave, just guessing: can you boot from the Win98 CD? On my pc the boot sequence is A: CD-ROM and then C:
so the pc first looks at the floppy drive, then CD drive and finally the hard disk for boot files.

I'm sure somebody else who knows for sure will be along.

Win98 won't install ...

Just re-visiting your early post on the matter. It would help us understand the problem better if you could let us know what the series of checks did.

Another thing which would help us is if you could post the contents of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the boot floppy you used to start your system. You could open the file with Notepad, choose Edit/SelectAll, Cut, and Paste to this thread. Once we see what your system is trying to do, we may notice what barriers are impeding its progress.
