>> I repeat the attempt using two of my mother's credit cards

Aren't you a little old to be charging things to your mom?

She's pretty lenient.

My kids come off the dole when they graduate college.

There is quite a difference between a cell phone, which offers incredibly cheap rates and free long distance, and the phones found in the backs of airplane seats. The latter are truly the worst value, worst performing methods of communications available in the US today (aside from AOL on a holiday weekend of course). This is widely known amongst the traveling public which is why you never see them in use. You may have actually been the only person to use that phone... ever.

Are you sure you arent related to John Candy?

I repeat the attempt using two of my mother's credit cards. Same response for each: "Your credit card is not valid. Please try another one."

That's strange. When I've used your mother's credit cards they work fine.

P. P. S. The next time someone tells me to buy a cell phone I'm gonna tell them to go stuff a turkey. And it won't be necessary that it be Thanksgiving.

Ooooohhh! I'd hate to have you on my bad side delivering devastating insults like that!

Jeeeeeez, Buckley, your attitude will doom any attempt to use a cell phone. I wonder if someone tied a knot in the string of your first phone.

Happy Day, Turkey~

Merlin, I can't get my cell phone to work when I punch in my credit card number either. It keeps saying something about "the number you have dialed is not in service".

Do I need a stewardess?

<< Okay, so the phone was AT&T's. That explains part of it. But it was still a wireless phone >>

Well yes sort of.

I mean like it sure wasn't a land line phone.

Did you perchance see a lot of cell sites in the area?

I get the stewardess.

My Lord, are you some sort of dinosaur from the Cro-Magnon era? You don't use wireless phones, you still refer to flight attendants as "stews", you're still sucking off of Mom's credit cards (you don't have any of your own, do you?), and I bet you do a lot of your cash flow ratios using an abacus or slide-rule.

And you're our MERLIN?????????????

God help us all.
