So should Ike have resigned after his heart attack? Or been impeached for it? Then we could have had Tricky Dick decades early. Ike's attack, as I recall, was 1957. He served out his term. And in 1957 the available therapy for cardiac problems was primitive compared to today. Shouldn't McGovern have flatly refused to even cosnsider keeping Eagleton on the ticket? In this context, mental problems are MUCH more serious. Had McGovern would have been only a heartbeat from the Presidency.
