RE:"They sure managed to do the job on McCain, who had much better conservative credentials than W"

They sure did and I still don't know how they did it. McCain would have been my choice over Bush...

RE:"As for Hillary running for President, that's some kind of bizarre recurring conservative fantasy. The wackos had Rosaline Carter running for President too. It would certainly fill the emotional void for Republicans, though."

I would really love to agree with you. I'd like to see Hillary just fade away but she does have political aspirations...she just had to get all the usefulness out of Willy first.
Stranger things have happened than the Dems embracing Hillary in four years...should Gore lose this year...
On the other hand, plenty of liberal Dems in Congress and the house for the Pubs to zero in on...
Gephart, Biden to name a couple...

Dan,

sure managed to do the job on McCain, who had much better conservative credentials than W.

The problem with McCain is that he didn't run on them. He didn't really steak out any position to run on. The only thing he ran on was the fact that he was the media darling and that he wasn't Bush. I was totally unimpressed by his campaign and I voted for Bush in the primaries.

In addition to that, I was totally turned off by McCain's irresponsible warmongering comments.
