Dave, guessing again: execute autoexec.bat My DOS knowledge is rusty, but I think you just type autoexec and hit ENTER Then comes the part I'm even less sure about: starting the installation. I would type the CD drive letter and display the directory. There might be a setup.exe program If there is, try to execute it. Wait! If the c prompt displays, the pc has probably booted already. Then just type in the CD drive letter and ENTER. Gottfried

Whatever disk, or CD you boot from, it will need the files IO.SYS and COMMAND.COM, with CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT and a few others optional. IO.SYS is your basic DOS system and COMMAND.COM accepts what you type on the command line and uses the code found in, and loaded from, IO.SYS to interpret and execute your instructions. COMMAND.COM provides the C:\> prompt, as well as reads and processes AUTOEXEC.BAT, meaning that when you see the C:\> prompt, the booting process has finished. Some files are hidden and DIR /AH, for Attribute Hidden will reveal their existence. Once you have your system booted, you need to make Win98 files available for installation. The command to do this is INSTALL or SETUP (I forget which, but try both) and is found on Win98 CDs. You may need to go to the Win98 directory, ("CD \Win98") to find the installation files. Win98 takes about an hour to install. Cheers, PW.
