" NTT is in the investing mood these days and is certainly looking for a low price. It certainly would make sense for them to downplay 3G in order to drive down the prices of their potential investments."

Since these investments are partially about spreading W-CDMA technology (thereby collecting royalties), shouldn't NTT be trying to put a positive spin on this technology that they're trying so hard to get others to adopt?

Bringing down expectations seems counterintuitive, unless they believe legal problems will follow such disappointments, and are trying to partially protect themselves in advance?

Any other thoughts?

Happy Thanksgiving wishes and health (if not wealth) to all.

<<Having read much of this stuff for the last 6 years, I have to wonder if there is some kind of motive for the recent "confessions" out of NTT.>>

MicroE, I am also suspicious of these seemingly truth serum-induced confessions. I can think of two possibilities:

- China is evaluating 3G technologies and has seen through the smoke.

- DoCoMo's cash cow and source of funds, i-mode in Japan, is about to be hit with a high speed service from KDDI. They must know the ads for transmitting audio and video clips are coming. They are downplaying these services in advance.
