Prior to that I was thinking that Intel would not kick a dog like this out on a bus like that.....but they did." Once again, the seemingly hurried and careless release of the limp P4, seems like an act of desperation...If so, wonder what's motivating such an act of desparation...Celery in checkmate by Duron, PWeeiii unable to scale any higher and in checkmate by Athlon and the 1 gig plus market about to be wholly consumed by the 1.2 gig Athy/DDR combo...Sounds like a fairly desparate state of INTC affairs to me (and all the while, paper capital gains vanishing faster than their microprocessor marketshare)...not to mention Dell having just been knocked off its perch of offering the highest performing PC for years by Micron's offering of its new Millenium system...Let's recap: Duron taking over budget PC space, Athlon taking over mid-range space, Athlon/DDR taking over Power performance space and Dell supplanted by Micron in offering the "best performing system...Who'd have thunk it one year ago??? Obviously, at $20, the marketplace is avoiding the reality, for whatever reason, of the significant shift that has and is continuing to occur in the microprocessor environment...what's more, AMD has assumed leadership in these spaces and at the same time posted record revenues and earnings...and that's before AMD enters the highly profitable server and mobile spaces in Y2001...At $20, assuming only limited success in the new server and mobile spaces, AMD's P/E ratio based upon Y2001 earnings could be below 5 at the moment...In a market with neutral sentiment, a company showing AMD's strong performance of the past 12 months and demonstrating such potentially huge potential, assuming even a modicum of success in the server and/or mobile spaces could easily trade with a 25 P/E...
