long-gone: I'm sure you think I'm really an apologist for the left, but as far as the tenor of the rhetoric being cast about lately, I find Jim Baker(the designated hit-man for GWB)to be the one spearheading the Republican vitriol about "stealing the election." To my knowledge there has been no evidence presented, no single dem accused by a republican of specific criminal acts. Until then, it's all spin.

I did speak to my brother today, who as a journalist has been at ground zero for the past week(Palm Beach county and Talahassee). His spin is that the Dems are winning the legal battle, but the Reps are winning the PR war by portraying Dems as "stealing the election" in an atmosphere of contradictory or simply unclear Florida law. Yes, the Dems have sought to exploit every legal advantage, but both candidates have failed us all by not meeting before all this started to work out in advance how this election could be decided in a way that would create widespread confidence in the fairness of the outcome. Maybe that's just a stupid fantasy to think they could have done that.

Anyway, as an "individual rights" kind of guy, don't you find it a huge contradiction for Bush to be appealing to the Supreme Court to resolve this? It flies in the face of not only his personal positions but would require that the majority of the court flee their own positions to rule in his favor. I haven't seen/heard a single legal comment that thinks Bush will get what he wants.
