Hi Rose - thanks for sharing the update

I think that the election and its effect on the market is overstated; basically we are seeing a correction of the excesses that occurred earlier in the year and in the last quarter of 1999 and that combined with a declining rate of growth is the reason for the decline that we have seen. This talk about the uncertainty regarding the election is just an excuse - after all we are going to see either Bush or Gore as our next president.

At this point it matters little who becomes president - with the House and Senate divided it seems likely that neither candidate will be able to effect too much in the way of radical changes. I used to be concerned about the Supreme Court if Bush got elected - but unless he nominates a centrist, the individual will probably not be confirmed by the Senate. I think that the Senate will be very vigilant when it comes to these appointments - something that they should have been when they confirmed Scalia and Thomas. It bothered me more than a little when Bush said that these two justices were the ones that he admired most on the court!

What I find overwhelming is the diatribe that one hears from the Republican right about the goings on in FL. The reality is that if the situation had been reversed and there were thousands of ballots that had not been counted in heavily Republican areas in FL, I have no doubt that we would have seen the Bush forces putting up just as vigorous a fight as the Gore people are doing.
