Military personnel had months to plan ahead and cast their votes. Failing to gtet post-marks is threefore no excuse.

You realize that once the election was dead-locked GOP operatives may have organized to get military Repulicans to cast votes AFTER the deadline of the election hoping to use this issue. Just as some Israelis may have. It was in the news that using FedEx you did not need a postmark and could vote after the election. That process was immediately busted by the canvassing authorities.

As for the military hating Clinton I have spoken to two sailors just back from the Gulf and they were both happy campers, planning to re-enlist, with no interest in politics and with nothing to report about any of their fellows having the least bit of interest in Bush-Cheney, or voting at all. Frankly most of them couldn't care less who is in The White House. They do their jobs the same no matter what. It is classic disinformation strategy for the GOP to try to "Dukakisize" the Dems by making them look unmanly and un-American. It works with the base but no one else. Everyone knows Clinton got rid of Milosovic (sp?) while Bush Sr. left Saddam in power. In both cases the military just did their job and pounded the hell out of the target regardless. Also remember that Clinton has a Republican in charge of the Pentagon. So why criticize him? And Gore has a lot more experience in these matters than Bush. In fact Bush without Cheney (I think he will/should resign now) is a babe in the woods. Finally, remember that the US military is now about 50% blacks and Hispanics. Those groups went 90% and 70% for Gore respectively. Therefore the fantasy image of the GOP all-white military is long out-dated.

As for "stealing the election" the Bush campaign is being run by former proteges of Lee Atwater. He was known as a "dirty" street-fighting political operative. They also have the right-wing Cuban operatives in Miami Dade who are notorious. The ugliness we've seen in the last few days as well as the disruptions to slow down the counting process are orchestrated events. The Dems may know how to fight dirty too, but it's mainly a case of fighting BACK that way. In general their people in Florida have acted responsibly and that order comes down from the top.

Leaving it to the courts and the actual vote tallies is the only responsible way to go now and despite the frustating delays and new legal motions this will soon all end. It's important for all of us not to get too emotional. Sure some of us are partisan but the courts have now taken charge and will be the ones to settle this tussle. We simply cannot trust either side to make the rules, and that includes SS Harris down there.
