Just what is the controversy? If you were a software developer, why would you not write software consistent with the P4 architecture.

Not only that, but chances are Intel marketing people went out and surveyed software developers to find out what they wanted and needed in a new architecture.

IMO a lot of the chip techies on this thread should have been lawyers and PR spinners instead of chip techies. I could imagine a lot of investor types visiting this thread could really be confused and mislead by the P4 deficiency conspirators.
