Worst Bela Fleck and the Flecktones show I've seen by a
long shot. The highlights now were avareage songs just 3 years ago. Victor's solo statrted with 8 minutes of
electronic nonsense followed by 5 minutes of good soloing
followed by another 3 minutes or so of nonsense. Parts
of the show were good but a good deal of it left a lot to be
desired. Tony Trischka did a short song just with Bela with
both of them playing Bela's banjo at the same time, it was
awesome. Sandip's solo was pretty good but Futureman's solo
sucked. There was a guest steel pan drum player who was
pretty good. There was a guest oboe player who played
through a midi synthesizer that made him sound like a
trumpet, he was pretty good but some of his solos were in
spots where Bela usually solos. Tonight was the 10th or
11th time I've seen Bela w/ the Flecktones and possibly
the last. If I didn't have the shows I've seen in
the past to compare this one to I probably would've liked
it a whole lot better. Also the Beacon was way too hot...
again. I figured since they were too cheap to use the AC in
the summer they'd be too cheap to use heat now so I dressed
warm which, big mistake. I'm going to Hot Tuna tomorrow in a
T-shirt and sweat pants with shorts underneath! I hope it's
a better show than tonights.
