Didn't IBM fab the 486 25/100 ... had a nickname .... blue lightening. Wasn't it in-famous for the 4x-multiplier?

I don't remember IBM selling systems with the 686 in them, but I do remember them selling Nx586 based systems when they were fabbing Nx586 processors.

John and Scumbria, IBM did fab the 686 and they did sell some systems with the 686. IBM had an arrangement with Cyrix to produce so many 686s with an IBM label as opposed to a Cyrix label. Not sure what the arrangement was, it could have been a one for one deal.

Going back to what Scumbria and Jim were talking about earlier (Cyrix MediaGX helping AMD get their foot in the OEM door), AMD had their foot firmly in the OEM door years ago with 386s and 486s.

The door was slammed on their foot when the post 486 problems (K5 initially) begin to arise. AMD has been trying to put these problems out of the OEM's minds for the past two years.
