Amazon Web site crashes on busiest shopping day

SEATTLE, Nov 24 (Reuters) - The Web site of online retailer
Amazon.com Inc. <AMZN.O> crashed on Friday, one day after
Thanksgiving Day and traditionally the biggest shopping day of
the year in the United States.
A message on the Web site, at amazon.com, said
Amazon's books, music, video, toys, electronics and home
improvement stores were "closed temporarily" but gave no
reason.
The site appeared to have crashed for about 30 minutes, and
was up and running again at about 9:30 a.m. PST (12:30 p.m.
EST).
Officials at the Seattle-based company were not immediately
available for comment.
Amazon's Web site has crashed before. In July, the site was
down for about 40 minutes just hours before it reported its
second-quarter financial results. That closure was caused by
what a spokeswoman described as a "hiccup" in the system.
Shares in Amazon rose $2-13/16, or 11 percent, to $28 in
early afternoon trading on the Nasdaq on Friday.

Holiday Shopping Underway

NEW YORK (AP) - The holiday shopping season opened today with the traditional
post-Thanksgiving rush at the nation's malls as people searched for early-bird
bargains and hot gifts such as scooters and robotic pets. Many woke at the crack
of dawn and lined up outside big chain stores like Toys R Us and Wal-Mart, some
of which opened 6 a.m. EST and earlier, determined to get a running start on the
busiest shopping day of the year.

Michael,
The news looked good today. Crowds at the store doors, Sunday dead line, Amazon crashed and recovered, European server sales up, market up. Can more good news be on the way? I sure hope so. Maybe a positive comment from MC next week. Maybe an analyst comment or up grade. Maybe just institutional buying of a good solid long term investment with explosive short term potential. That combined with short covering should carry us back to $30.<g>
