My attempt to lighten things up and nobody even reads it. I'm crushed.

Thurston: I don't believe I've ever tried Booker Noe. Heard of it, but never tried it. I bought a bottle of Buffalo Trace for the first time a few months ago. Pretty good. Mostly I sip Maker's Mark. (Some whisky purists say MM is not true whisky, since it's made with wheat and not rye.)

Toured the Maker's Mark distillery in Loretto, Ky., this past summer. In the tour group were a guy from Switzerland, three gals from Italy, and couples from Oregon and Texas. Amazing. They had a fire a couple years ago at the Heaven Hill distillery outside Bardstown. One of the barns where they store the whisky barrels went up in smoke. The heat was so intense that it buckled the state highway about 50 yards away from the barn! State had to rebuild a portion of the roadway. A lot of the distilleries are now coming out with premium, select batches that run about $20 a quart.
