Why do you think that we see this sort of suit now and never fifty years ago? They don't really believe in "the need to establish a diverse population of workers/students", you know. What they do know is that they are in the federal gunsights. I don't believe they care WHAT your skin color or gender is if you can be productive; however, they understand that they had better have certain numbers of certain minorities or they'll be in court. << This is a most difficult issue, but, generally, I believe that the federal government should offer a helping hand to people (as a whole) in need of a helping hand. >> It has offered that hand for forty years now. At what point do we get to call this policy a failure? "outside the purview of the federal government" my ***. That's ludicrous. OF COURSE THESE THINGS ARE THE RESULT OF FEDERAL ACTION!!! <<many tests for admission and such might well be culturally biased. >> I see you know the excuse du jour for failure. "culturally biased". How is it that that so many millions of immigrants have managed to find ways of dealing with "cultural bias"? I know many myself. They come from countries with western cultures like Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and China. You want to know about cultural bias? UC Berkeley and Galileo High School, the best high school in San Francisco, have quotas limiting the number of ASIANS they will accept. This is to protect the blacks, latinos, and CAUCASIANS, so some of them can get in. I'm Caucasian. Want to know my answer? Eliminate the quotas. If the entires classes turn into Asians, the Caucasians should take that as a warning sign that they should get off their butts and get to work. This is NOT a "difficult issue". This is Jim Crow brought back to life! Can you spell "prejudice".
