Victor: I asked myself the same question this week. I sold some NEM to buy some tech stocks. But I am holding SWC. I still own some gold, and I still think it has merit as a hedge against one thing in particular -- the potential decline in the US dollar. But so far, the dollar is holding up quite well. BTW, the flip side of your question is "why is the dollar holding up so well"? and "will the dollar hold up much longer"? Good luck.

Victor, the canadian oil sector sat on its duff early in the year, even with prices rising, then finally things started to rock. its been the best sector up here this year along with canuck banks

gold itself is down in the dumps but if you check some golds like NEM or ABX, they are off their lows.

the high and low list in toronto is definitely tilted to the lows, like 8 highs to 100 lows one day this week but the golds weren't in there. no shortage of high tech in there though...
