Buck, Once you are confident it will work, make the switch.
Put your job on the line and it will work fine. What you are describing is IT people who lack guts and faith in their convictions. We all know that it is a rare application that knows or cares what CPU is in the box. The SSE1 and 2 are attempts to muddy that water, but they are not that successful.
make sure you are buying good quality systems so that if there is a problem with drives etc it will not get blamed on the AMD inside.

Buckwheat:

Thanks for the reference to the Sharky piece.

"To paraphrase what an IT consultant once said to me, unless you have a compelling reason to recommend something other than Intel, you just cannot take the gamble of recommending something else. It's like the old line, "Nobody ever got fired for recommending IBM."

The P4 bellyflop on top of the innumerable Y2000 PWeeiii false starts, I would think will do much to dispell the "no risk" notion associated with sticking with INTC...Looks like those CYA IT consultants could be eating AMD dust within 6 months, and looking for new jobs...
