"Extremism in defense of liberty is NO VICE .. Moderation in pursuit of justice is NO VIRTUE." -Barry Goldwater.

We are living in a time when this statement has more meaning than the day it was uttered in the '60s.

Gore to Contest Recount Result in Palm Beach
By DON VAN NATTA Jr.
nytimes.com

<<<Despite urging by Democratic lawyers this morning, the board decided to count ballots that had a pattern of dimples, a standard that Democrats said was too strict and defied the spirit of an order by a circuit judge. After counting more than 500 ballots in 13 precincts today, Mr. Gore had picked up only 20 votes.

"We have been dealing with marks that are barely identifiable to the human eye, from a pinhole all the way up to what has become known as a dimpled or pregnant chad," County Judge Charles E. Burton, the canvassing board chairman, said today. "We're trying to consider it all."

By tonight, Mr. Bush still maintained a slight edge over Mr. Gore in Palm Beach County's manual recount, a development that confounded and disappointed lawyers for the vice president here. In today's counting, Mr. Bush had a net gain of eight votes in Palm Beach County.

With several Gore aides acknowledging that it appears increasingly unlikely that Mr. Gore will be able to use hand recounts here and in Broward County to erase Mr. Bush's 930-vote lead in Florida, senior lawyers have turned their attention to the arguments they will make for a planned challenge of the election results. The lawyers said the Gore campaign plans to contest the results almost immediately after Secretary of State Katherine Harris certifies the election result on Sunday, as is expected.

I voted for Gore because he was the better man for the job. I can't help thinking that he no longer is.

Why does it take democrats soooo long to catch on? Gore's
character was common knowledge to me, BEFORE the election.
His actions after the election prove what Republicans have
known all along.
