The words cosmologist and cosmetologist are both intimately connected at the root, btw. "Cosmetic" and "cosmic" are micro/macro flavors of one fundamental idea. The greek word "cosmos", from which all these words and concepts are derived, implied the larger world we inhabit was an intelligently ordered and even deliberately "decorated" environment...deliberately and consciously made beautiful.

Desmond Morris suggested the two most fundamental human social activities (beyond eating and survival) are play and decoration (both personal adornment and enhancing the immediate environment). Bland found this to be an extremely profound and true observation.

THANX DEAR BlANDNESS! Going to read it right away. My favorite essay on designer universe is by Steven Weinberg, was published in the NY Review of Books:

Of course, he doesn't believe there is one. But try to keep an open mind, even if your conclusions are quite different, it's always important to fully absorb the other side's arguments. And Weinberg is a genius and his arguments are solid.

(And I still disagree w/ him)

In hunting for the URL just now, I saw the mag published a response recently, so I'll read that too. Lemme know what you think
