As I've said, I have next to no experience with DVDs, other than determining my system works before the warranty runs out.

Interestingly, to me, anyway, I had an audio CD repeat the same few bars of music continuously just like the old vinyl records used to do. I thought this amusing. Some percussive maintenance didn't work. I manually selected the next tune.

Before buying my system, a guy with a boat posted that he'd recommend getting the DVD drive, but he didn't say why. What you've posted explains his position clearly --- he probably watched movies.

I think I'll rent a couple of DVDs and give the issue another visit.
