I'm not asking you or anyone else to agree with my values. I realize they are personal. But I do sort of object to being called biased. Maybe I'm not being biased at all and the people that think I am are failing to see their own biases. The truth of the matter is, I didn't vote for either man. I tend to favor democrats on social issues and republicans on economic issues. In this election I favored Gore on both economic and social issues. My only bias is a deep personal distaste for Gore as a person. But I wasn't born feeling like that. It came about as a result of watching his actions and words over the last 8 years - right through this election process. So perhaps it's simply that the same types of things I found offensive years ago are being repeated now. Both sides have some clear goals in trying to protect their interests. I have no problem with that. Basically it comes down to the manual recount and absentee votes. In my mind it has always come down to that, otherwise Bush wins. I expect both sides to use the legal process to gain an advantage and to spin the issues in their own favor. Within those two fights I think there are a lot of things that fall into the category of subjective, controversial, unclear, etc... You get the picture. Both sides have some legitimate points. Two intelligent people could easily disagree on who is right. Within those sub-fights, I'm on the fence in most cases, but I favor one or the other in others. The key point is that two reasonable people could disagree without being biased. There are some things that I don't believe are really subjective. They fall into the category of "unfair" and "distasteful" efforts to steal the advantage. IMO, any reasonable person could see that they aren't fair. 1. Manually recounting only democrat districts. 2. Starting the manual recount within small areas in those districts that Gore is expected to gain votes and then stopping them when they start favoring Bush. 3. Claiming the ballot was illegal and trying to get a revote because there were honest and unfortunate mistakes made. 4. Using different standards in different districts when they are basically being set by the party in control of the area. 5. Changing the standards for this election when another set of standards has typically been used in the district. There's been a couple of others, but I can't recall them all. I hope you can at least see where I am coming from and why "I" (not everyone) believe Gore's behavior has been much worse. Late news. They just found 500 more absentee votes that were misplaced - for how long???. But I suppose that my view that a legitimate case can be made against the manual process is pointless. Wayne
