Hi George Acton; Re the Republican intimidation in Dade county...

Of the three counties where recounts are going on, Dade is only responsible for 39,000 votes or 11% of the total Gore margin among those three counties. By comparison, Broward is the important battle ground, Gore won it by 210,000 votes, so the recounts there will likely provide many times as many votes for Gore as Dade county. Dade is not likely to be necessary to put Gore in the white house. I suspect that the Democrats only included it in the manual recount because they were unsure of what the totals would be. When it became obvious that Broward and Palm Beach (with another 100,000 Gore margin votes) would be enough, the Democrats stopped the Dade county recount, and falsely blamed the Republicans for the counting halt. Total balderdash.

Here's a prediction: Since the Democrats let the recounting in Dade stop, that means that they are sure that they have enough votes in Broward and Palm Beach. Consequently, you will see Gore pick up the lead tomorrow.

The majority of the elected officials in Dade are undoubtedly Democratic, and if they really needed to count those votes they would make it happen. There is no need for counter demonstrations and all that. All they need is a police cordon.

The purpose behind the demonstrations is to provide TV exposure for the parties. The actions of the parties are partly to get their guy elected, but that is only the significant actions. The press release and demonstration cr@p is entirely intended to generate good press and donations.

As far as "bourgeoise" riots and intimidation are concerned, not a chance. Was it Marx who said that because of the fear of death, the bourgeoisie is impotent to be truly violent? Any violence performed by the right wing is not going to arise from the SUV crowd, instead it can only happen from the poorer section, probably the right to life types. The concept of guys in suits rioting is silly, they have too much to lose. What are they going to explain to the boss when they end up in jail? Why should they risk getting poked in the face, their lives are fine. Here's a clue: The Nazi brownshirts didn't have jobs, much less suits.
