Pomp,

What we have so far is no Kristall Nacht.

Good, we agree.

However, I am disturbed by the picture of political parties "in the streets", so to speak. Not an image of America I want to treasure for the future.

But that is America. The right to protest and make your feelings known is one of the things that precisely defines our country (as I was reminded by the Indian cab driver I had in Seattle a couple of weeks ago). To me, peaceful protest can have any decibel level whatsoever. It crosses the line into a non-allowable activity when it starts to come to physical blows. But up until then, people can scream as loudly as they want.

One side or the other will feel cheated when this is all over.

Agree, as well. It'll be nice that no one has a "mandate".

Hopefully, it will only represent itself in strengthening the registration and get out the vote of its supporters in two years.

I'd like to believe that. I suspect that a sucky economy will have as much of an effect, but the net result of both should be a better turn-out.

Now if we could only ensure that they're "informed" voters <G>.
