Pomp,

"Let us in" can be heard by an obviously frazzled lightweight public offical as "Let us in and listen to our concerns about how you are going to do the job on every ballot and, oh, by the way, we know where you live".

Yes, it could.

Intimidation can come in many forms and people charged with an unbiased neutral task need to be secluded from it to the greatest extent possible.

Unfortunately, this is not one of those times that the job can occur in the "back room". If it does, half of the population will not accept the result. Everything right now has to be in the open. Apparently, people are lined up in Palm Beach, I believe it is, to be able to watch the process for a couple of minutes. CNN is calling it the new Florida tourist destination, though that sounds like something of an exaggeration to me <G>.

Finally, protesters from both sides are, and have been, out protesting. It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" job. You're going to feel intimidation from one side or the other. Best to keep it all public and move on.
