Scott, this statement from the pdf spec you posted pretty much says the ECC is on the memory, not the cache:

Each UDB II has a 64-bit interface plus eight parity bits on the CPU side, and a 64-bit interface plus eight error correction code (ECC) bits on the system side.

If Sun had ECC on any cache they certainly would have come back with that.
