At year end, all options sold will appear on a 1099 form
from a broker.

Aren't you obliged to show all of these "sales" on your 2000 Federal return, even if just mark to market for a fictitious buy on Dec. 31, 2000?

Is there any advantage to claiming trader status?

It seems that 1256 options are the only vehicles affected.
