TG,

<< "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." >>

Yup. One of the great one-liners. Jesus certainly had a sense of humor, and more importantly perhaps, could handle a loaded question with both ease and profundity. Brilliant!

In my view, his response was tantamount to saying, You figure it out........because in the end, you'll have to anyway, since the one thing you can never escape is your own subjectivity. Morality is dictated by internal drives, not mandated by external codes, and when you use externals as the authority, you run into hopelessly self-defeating dillemas from which nobody benefits. Witness the Scribes, Pharisees, and Saducees, the only people with which Jesus seemed to have little tolerance for. Or, if you will, "The Kingdom of Heaven is within."

Still, Jesus wasn't in a position of power, so I guess we'll never know whether or not he might have gotten into the business that every politician engages in, of telling people exactly what was Caesar's and what was not.......but I've got my hunches!

<;-)

Just my $0.02......awright, awright, maybe only $0.01............
