Pro-Gore Columnists Jump Ship

In a clear indication that Vice President Al Gore's aggressive
handling of the post-election crisis is beginning cost him
support in usually friendly quarters, two high profile
columnists for major urban dalies who backed Gore now say they
want George Bush to be the next president.

"I cast my ballot for Al 'Will of the People' Gore," wrote the
New York Post's Andrea Peyser on Friday. "More than two weeks,
scores of dubious lawsuits, hundreds of sleazy lawyers and
thousands of dimpled chads later, I regret that decision."

"Now I want to change my vote to Bush," Peyser announced.
"Gore's shameful performance these last two weeks has ensured I
will never consider him my rightful president."

Washington Post opinionmeister Richard Cohen echoed Peyser,
writing the same day, "If I could, I would withdraw my vote (for
Gore)."

"Given the present bitterness, given the angry irresponsible
charges being hurled by both camps, the nation will be in dire
need of a concilliator, a likable guy who will make things
better and not worse," argued Cohen.

"That man is not Al Gore. That man is George W. Bush."
