Maybe we should be cautious about judging the P4 from it's current status. Intel first tried to compete with AMD by improving clock frequency on it's P3, and then proclaimed that P4 was the main competitor. This does not mean that the first version of P4 will slam the Athlon. But maybe the next will...

Also remember, that the P4 architecture is quite new, and probably is easier to improve than an older, tweaked architecture.

Are you kidding? Workstation apps like 3D Studio Max and other 3D CAD tools, scientific apps, and anything else which is FPU-intensive. You know, the apps which Athlon used to be competitive in.
