For the Commercials to beef up their S&P 500 short position any more, they'd have to find some way to short their shorts: The COT showed yet another new net short record prior to last week, after a brief, minuscule tick down from unprecedented levels the previous week. Needless to say, these ain't normal times, but, normally, a net short position would be disaccumulated while the market was still declining. One would think this rule would apply all the more forcefully when the balance has been so unprecedentedly far out of whack.
