I think they should wait for sweeps.

Yesterday we took my brother in law to the Philadelphia Art Museum to see the Van Gogh show, and afterwards we ate at the City Tavern, which is where Thomas Jefferson hung out while he revised the Declaration of Independence. The City Tavern was torn down but has been rebuilt according to the old blueprints, drawings, and descriptions, and it is a very nice place. The staff all dress up in period costumes, and the recipes are taken from old recipe books. The furniture is antiques, and the plates are replicas, and the only light is candlelight. One reason we like it so much is the beer, which is brewed according to recipes from George Washington's and Thomas Jefferson's own recipe books.

It is ironic that I decided to take the kids to Philadelphia this summer because Ben is studying the Constitution in school, and I wanted to make it come alive for him. Ironic because now we are watching the television with not only the Constitution open on the coffee table but also our copies of the Federalist Papers and the Anti-Federalist papers!

I got a laugh out of the Federalist Papers last night - Madison assured the reader that the federal military would never be stronger than the state militias so there was no reason to fear centralized power. Once upon a time, fearing centralized power was taken seriously. Now those of us who still fear it are marginalized, and treated like loonies.

Perhaps the events of the present day may give pause to some of those who take centralized power for granted. Gore's response to Bush's petition for a writ of certiorari reads like plain old fashioned federalism, aka state's rights. That may be the most ironic thing I've seen in my lifetime.

Today we are going to Monticello, and afterwards will eat at a period style restaurant in Leesburg.

I just got up and saw the poor PB commissioners still at it.
I have a theory that they have the votes and are just keeping it to themselves, waiting
for prime time, eleventh hour coverage when they will announce it to the breathlessly
awaiting world.

Well, at this point it will have to be 13th hour, not 11th hour.
