DRBES:

"We may be witnessing a profound change in relative stature of the two corporate entities involved. As unthinkable as it may be to many, we may eventually emerge from this fray with AMD on top and inteL on the bottom. This could have the consequence of an eventual change in the relative market caps of the two."

I won't disagree that such an outcome is positive...
In fact, given events that have transpired over the past couple of months as follows,

i) now that PWeeiii has "hit the scalability wall"
ii)now that we know that P4, in its current incarnation, is far from being the highly hyped Athy killer that many feared and in fact, the possibility seems more likely that the P4 may never attain meaningful "real-life" competitive status, and,
iii) now that AMD is delivering a new level computing product, the 1.2 gig Athy/DDR combo, into the retail market, symbolizing the end of the PWeeiii leadership era and probably the beginning of unparallelled demand for AMD product...

the chances seem to have increased significantly for such an outcome to evolve...

Ever since etailers appeared, I rarely step out to go shopping (too painful with two little kids in tow). Yesterday, I ended up at the new Best Buy store in Seattle. The machines at the end of the HP row and Compaq row were AMD machines (900 MHz, 1GHz for both). I snooped in on an older couple contemplating a purchase, and the lady was paraphrasing for the sales person - pointing to the 1GHz HP, she was saying "those may be Intel Pentiums, but these here are the new top-of-the-line models".

AMD needs to position themselves as the Juniper to Intel's Cisco. I felt very confident about my long AMD position after witnessing the store yesterday.
