TE.SA.M. is pleased to announce that the TE.SA.M. T.U.R.K. Globalstar gateway, located in Ogulbey (20 minutes from Ankara), has been formally inaugurated on November 21, 2000, as a proof of technical presence of the Globalstar system in Turkey.

The following weeks will see the completion of a number of technical adjustments and tests, in particular with respect to the local PSTN and the Turkish cellular operators networks. During that period, Globalstar service will be in "soft launch" mode.

Commercial service is expected to commence in late December/early January, initially in Turkey, followed by Egypt, Lebanon, and a number of neighbouring countries with whom Turkey has historical and economic ties.

TE.SA.M. T.U.R.K. is a subsidiary of TE.SA.M. SAS, a company created by France Telecom (51%) and Alcatel (49 %), and one of the Founding Strategic Partners of Globalstar L.P. TE.SA.M. SAS is the exclusive provider of access to the Globalstar constellation in more than 30 countries, including Turkey.

Globalstar is a digital telecommunications service, based on a constellation of 48 low-orbiting satellites (LEOs) which extends the coverage of existing terrestrial networks, cellular or fixed. Globalstar is particularly well suited to serving territories poorly covered by fixed or cellular networks, or isolated areas without telecommunications network coverage whatsoever.
